I had to register just to say this. I've been reading about improved boot times for mire than a year now, but, without a SSD, I have not noticed any improvement in my boot time at all.

What is the actual condition that makes bootchart decide to stop ? Is it monitoring for a specific process to finish ?

It can be specified in the config file.

Those results are surprising. Ubuntu Netbook Remix (maybe different boot process ??) just needs 34s on a Mini9 or Mini10v with a slightly modified configuration (we added a Cherokee web server). So 59s is really too slow. My 34s doesn't include any login, it's set to autolog the default user. And I'm NOT talking about GRUB to desktop, but power the netbook to desktop! I think we could remove at least 7 secondes if we count from GRUB.
