i think the testsuite should support network
based test to compare the network stack of linux with (for example) tru64 or other proprietary unix versions
machine1 (PTS) <-LAN-> machine2 (DUT)
machine2: (for example)
a alpha DS10 workstation with Tru64 UNIX
and (for example) latest samba version
and now use the same hardware with
(maybe) debian for alpha and the same
samba version and run the network
based test again.
you get:
1) test for non x86 hardware
2) performance compare with UNIX
this should be done with
Tru64 on ALPHA
Solaris on Sparc64
AIX on PPC64 (RS/6000)
IRIX on MIPS64
