  • Kwin compositing slow on HD3650

I've never been much of a fan of desktop compositing, as it usually only adds eye candy but no real advantage. But this time I've decided to give it a try (again).

I've been using Kubuntu 9.10 with the official Catalyst 9.10 on both of my laptop computers, one has HD3200 integrated graphics, the other has a dedicated HD3650.

I've enabled KDE desktop effects on both computers, but I've noticed that the one with integrated graphics performs better. Some of the effects feel laggy on the HD3650, especially effects that make windows translucid (move, resize window) and appearing windows (restoring from minimize, dialogs). On the HD3200 all the effects feel very smooth.

I don't know if this is a KDE bug or something related to the newest fglrx drivers. In previous versions all the effects felt very smooth on both computers (Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.3, Catayst 9.6 to 9.8, didn't install 9.9).

    Any ideas?
