Catalyst & backfill problem

Does somebody know if the performance issues with the fglrx drivers when using desktop effects (e.g. slow window resizing) will finally be addressed? I know that the exists a workaround/hack for xorg (no-backfill patch), but it causes temporary screen corruption and in extreme cases can pose a security risk (random memory - e.g. image - data gets displayed). There where rumors that this issue will be addressed at the XDC.
