Phoronix: Gnash 0.8.6 Release Brings New Features

On the same day as talking about H.264 video acceleration for Flash via VA-API in Gnash, a new Gnash release has come about (although it doesn't contain any of these video playback improvement). Gnash 0.8.6 though does contain a number of other improvements. Among the new items in this SWF/Flash player that's endorsed by the Free Software Foundation is implementing Camera and Microphone capabilities along with several other parts of the SWF specification, better A/V synchronization, parsing improvements, stubs for all ActionScript 3 classes, an initial AVM2 implementation, a re-factored network engine, and many other changes. The full list of highlights for Gnash 0.8.6 along with source download links is available from the Gnash Project blog...

But does it play youtube videos any better than swfdec yet? i.e. not having to type "fmt=6" at the end of every URL.

Hopefully they'll be able to get avm2 support working well by spring ---> Many more video sites would work.
