Phoronix: Intel's IGDNG Is Clarkdale & Arrandale

For about two months we have been talking about work that Intel has been committing to its open-source drivers for a new, unreleased graphics processor. Within the code this new graphics chipset is simply referred to as IGDNG (which we take to mean "Intel Graphics Device Next Generation")...

Their latest drivers might be sucky, their hardware can't beat a PSP in a rendering contest, but they sure take Linux seriously. Actually delivering driver code for an unreleased hardware? DAMN.

Other manufacturers should start taking notes.

I hope Intel starts building serious graphics hardware soon.

Besides, there is already source code for hardware video decoding acceleration through VA API and XvMC. Other codecs than MPEG-2 VLD will appear next. And I fully agree with "other manufacturers should start taking notes".

            Way to miss the point.

Well they have been developing the iwmc3200wifi driver for a while now, the hardware does not ship yet either.

The driver is already merged into the mainline kernel.

Don't get excited. Everything else points to it being a derivative of their current integrated graphics. It won't run games or anything.

                  That's not the point.

My GMA X3000 is running numerous 3D-games just fine.
