  • Complete n00bs wifi finder?

I need a wifi finder that will work with ubuntu 8.10 that will just passively look for any and all visible wireless networks and allow them to be connected to from the app via point and click.

Cousin is having me install Ubuntu on her Dell Inspron 1300 notebook after she thrashed her XP install so bad it was unrecoverable and she doesn't have the reinstall discs...She's pretty much a myspace/youtube only user.

Default installation includes NetworkManager that should be visible in notification area. It is point and click interface for choosing wifi network. It also auto-connects to all networks that has been previously selected manually.

Odd, says it doesn't support scanning. Effing dell modified Broadcom POS... Even though ubuntu auto found the driver for it?

          You need firmware for broadcom:

          sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

It worked, but only the first time, after a reboot it shows no listings and iwlist says wlan0 no scan results, when it did work it found 9 locked and 2 open connections in range, allot more then the 2 locked and 1 open that windows used to see.
