You can build and install the drm from the 6xx-7xx-support branch of mesa/drm. There are instructions on the radeonhd wiki at http://www.x.org/radeonhd, look for the instructions specific to the 6xx-7xx branch. They are radeonhd instructions so they mention the need to add a "DRI" option - you don't need that with radeon.
