fglrx 9.4 unsupported handware?

I have just switched to the open source drivers and I am VERY happy with the results. Changing setups and resolutions for various two monitor setups (one monitor, 2 monitors of different resolution next to each other, cloning) works much better than before. Suspend to RAM works flawlessly and composite desktop effects of KDM are much snappier than with the proprietary drivers. 3D is ok for my needs: glxgears runs at about 2000 FPS and google earth feels very smooth.

In case anybody is interested: http://pastebin.ca/1403561 is the xorg.conf. Additionally I have created a file ".XDefaults" with one line "Xft.dpi: 84" because the default DPI way much too high for my taste. Well I tried modifing the driver a bit, but it does not seem to be possible to use a r600 ChipID override to start fglrx. The kernel module can be easyly patched to get loaded, but thats all. I would highly recommend to release every few month an updated driver - just like the Win drivers are sheduled. Or get rid of the monthly drivers completely and release on purpose.

yeah, I got similar experience. The open source drive really does a good job. My card is just dropped by the fglrx driver, but I'm pretty happy to use the "ati" driver now. Cheers for the guys working on open source drivers!
