  • zenformat makes formatting removable drives under Linux simple

There was an article on Phoronix a few months back about the new GNOME disc formatting tool but sadly I never got that tool to work properly and it didn't support naming drives, due to a current limitation present in (all apps that are based upon) libparted, which to me was a fundamental feature of disc formatting util.

I got sick of waiting for GNOME and KDE to introduce what I believe to be a significant and LONG overdue missing feature in their current desktops and so I implemented the kind of functionality I'd like to see (except for the fact that you need to be root) in a simple formatting tool I called zenformat

Download zenformat for free. zenformat is a simple, zenity-based GUI for the mkdosfs command which enables easy formatting of FAT16 and FAT32 (ie DOS and Windows standard) drives under Linux or any system running X, zenity and mkdosfs.

Hope you (or your friends and family) find it useful!
