  • i want only a TV screen

    Hello,

    KDE 4.2 / radeon 4670 + a TV screen (sony 40w4000)/ opensuse 11.1.

At the beginning, i used xinerama and a 22 inches samsung LCD with my TV. Everything was fine but now i want to use only my TV.
When i disconnect my samsung lcd, after a restart, i can't go under KDE (console mode). "aticonfig --initial" and "startx" give me a black screen and a hard reset, "sax2 -m -r 0 =fglrx" gives me a black screen and this message from my television "the signal is not supported".

Actually i have 2 screen in my living room , wich is not usefull.

What i understood was that "aticonfig --initial" uses the former xorg.conf to create a new one. This xorg.conf, in my situation, contains mostly the information about my 22 inches samsung LCD and almost nothing about my sony TV, well nothing as far as i see.

Do you have an idea to create automatically a new xorg.conf for my TV screen.

    Bibi

ps : i'm not at home so i cant post my xorg.conf...

It may be that the TV is not providing EDID information, so the config utilities won't know about it. The xorg log might give some clues.

          And here is my xorg.xonf

          Code:
          Section "ServerLayout"
          	Identifier "Layout[all]"
          	Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
          	InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard"
          	InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer"
          	InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents"
          	Option "Clone" "off"
          	Option "Xinerama" "off"
          EndSection
          Section "Module"
          	Load "dri"
          	Load "dbe"
          	Load "freetype"
          	Load "extmod"
          	Load "glx"
          EndSection

          Section "Monitor"
          	Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
          	Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
          	Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
          	Option "DPMS" "true"
          EndSection

          Section "Device"
          	Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
          	Driver "fglrx"
          	BusID "PCI:4:0:0"
          EndSection

          Section "Screen"
          	Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
          	Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
          	Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
          	DefaultDepth 24
          	SubSection "Display"
          		Viewport 0 0
          		Depth 24
          	EndSubSection
          EndSection

          Section "DRI"
          	Group "video"
          	Mode 0660
          EndSection
What is really strange is that when i start my computer with the LDC samsung plugged but off and my TV on, it works in 1680*1050 but when i start my computer with just my TV plugged... .
And my Tv is plugged through an adaptator dmi->hdmi.

            I continue alone :

It works with this xorg.conf :

            Section "ServerLayout"
            Identifier "Layout[all]"
            Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
            InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard"
            InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer"
            InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents"
            Option "Clone" "off"
            Option "Xinerama" "off"
            EndSection

            Section "Module"
            Load "dri"
            Load "dbe"
            Load "freetype"
            Load "extmod"
            Load "glx"
            EndSection

            Section "Monitor"
            Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
            DisplaySize 487 303
            Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
            Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
            Option "DPMS" "true"
            EndSection

            Section "Device"
            Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
            Driver "fglrx"
            BusID "PCI:4:0:0"
            EndSection

            Section "Screen"
            Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
            Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
            Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
            DefaultDepth 24
            SubSection "Display"
            Viewport 0 0
            Depth 24
            EndSubSection
            EndSection

I had to add "DisplaySize 487 303" cause alla the police in KDE4 were unreadable (too litle).

Now i have one last issue : if i enable 60Hz in amdccle, which is at 24Hz, after a reboot i cant go under KDE (hard reboot), and i have to delete /etc/ati/ and reinstall the driver.

By the way i still have the video tearing problem (with xv and gl). Do you think that it could come from the refresh?

            Bibi
