Phoronix: You Can Now Play UT3 On Linux, Sort Of

The Linux client for Unreal Tournament 3 still hasn't been released, but it's now possible to easily play this game on Linux. Cedega 7.1 was released this morning and it now supports Unreal Tournament 3 along with better supporting Bioshock, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, FEAR 2, Medal of Honor Airborne, and Sins of a Solar Empire...

Is it safe now to claim that the linux version of UT3 was a hoax?

There's one word too many in the title...

I'd reckon Cedega is far more Sort Of than Play.

I hope these guys go bankruptcy. They deserve it. And I'll feel sorry only for the "normal" guys that work there and have a family.

          Gamespy stomped on UT3 Linux

Blame them, the work was already all done by icculus

You have any proof of that? Last thing heard from icculus was some 1/2 finished screenshots that showed a lot of work still having to be done.

the original chat, this is some info on the problems with the server release which point to problems with gamespy, however This just suggests it costs too much to port games with gamespy based networking to mac/linux, so not proof as such, no.

guys, first of all, please stop bitching about cedega and transgaming all the time !

They give linux players the possibility to play windows games which do atm NOT work with wine or only work very poorly.

E.g. Bioshock, Medal Of Honor Airborne, Red Alert 3 ...

At least Bioshock and red alert 3 only worked poorly in wine (with low graphics) and perfromance was not good also the last time i tried..

When you look at the new support games list of 7.1 you will surely notice that Bioshick is now a certified title. This game uses the UT3 engine.
Cause they wanted to certify this title and therefore had to get the ut3 engine working, games like ut3, medal of honor airborne also work now.

The fact that ut3 works in cedega now has absolutely NOTHING to do with the native ut3 client icculus is working on.

UT3 simply works in cedega cause of the fact they certified bioshock which uses the same engine like ut3.

So, tg is not as bad as you guys always claim them to be.

                  Christian

One thing does not imply the other. Just because two games use the U3 engine does NOT imply they both work the same. Engine versions are forked on licensing and then often modified. Hence Bioshock can work with their modified U3 but another U3 might not.
