    howdy,

    we've got a s2915wa2nrf-e w/6 sata drives in a raid 5. 1 as a hot stand by and 5 for the real data. we dont see them all.
    running ubuntu 8.04

    does anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

    fdisk -l gives you what?
    whats in the bios?

    You could have a dud disk, I had a dud brand new seagate IDE 320GB drive i just sent back. Thing didn't even spin up.

        well i'd say dud disk. One just seems missing. The bios would be your last check, if it doesnt appear there and everything is definately plugged in then it's time to RMA...

        Why do you have 4 raid devices though? Surely you would have one, and then partition it?

          over the weekend i had my buddy check the drives since the setup is at his data center and guess what?

          sure enough, it looks like a seagate barracuda doa. DOH!

          looks like we've gotten to used to stuff working not to go back to the basics of why it didnt work.

          and we double checked the cables too. nope, its the disk.
