  • Help forcing GDM resolution?

I have two questions about forcing a display mode with fglrx.

I have an old CRT that supports 1600x1200 but I prefer to run it at 1280x1024. No matter what setting I fiddle with on CCC or gnome's "screen resolution" tool, GDM always loads at 1600x1200 and only switches to 1280x1024 when I log in. (Oddly, since 9.1 GDM tries to set the mode *three* times.) How do I make GDM default to 1280x1024?

My second question is similar but less important. At resolutions at 1280x1024 and lower my monitor supposedly supports refresh rates up to 75hz, but flickers when running at anything above 60hz. I can tell my default desktop to run at 60hz through CCC or screen resolution, but when switching to lower resolutions to play games it defaults to the highest refresh rate and flickers. How can I make all resolutions (or at least some) default to 60hz?

I'm hoping there's a way to do this that doesn't involve wrestling with xorg.conf, but I'm not too optimistic on that point.

    Thanks!

Replying to my own thread in case anyone has a similar problem.
I added a line of OK modes in the Subsection Display of xorg.conf:
    Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" etc etc

No longer does the display set itself 3 times at gdm.
