Laptop speakers work, but not headphones or external speakers!

I have dell inspiron 6400, and installed Fedora 10, with all the latest apckages for kernel and alsa, and audio packages and etc. When I play anything which has audio, they are played with no error and I can hear the audio from my laptop speakers, but when connect headphones or external speakers to the headphone jack, I can't hear a thing! The problem iks not for the hardware, since I can use my headphones or external speakers on my windows XP (two os on the system). Anybody got a clue on what's happening? This is really annoying.

This was a kernel problem, relating to audio jacks for some dell laptops. The problem was on kernel 2.6.27.9. Thanks to kernel developers, it was solved in kernel 2.6.27.12. Now the headphone jack is working as it should.
