which is extremly suspicious. I would have waited for official packages (or made them myself).

@meden I get the same line with my 3870 - I am afraid that line is bogus....

Same err as in 8.8, 8.9, 8.10. Neither --buildpkg option, nor the "standard" installation procedure finishes successfully.

Revert once again to the SuSE-compiled binary (8.9 Catalyst) package.

      Using Mobility X1600 256 mb ddr3.
      openSuSE 11.0, KDE 3.5.9, X.Org 7.3, 2.6.25.18-0.2.

dkms will work with Debian too - autoinstalled by script in that case. Note that the unpatched installer has broken --buildpkg Ubuntu because the fglrx kernel module will not work then - check dmesg.
Your script doesn't work for Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit. Module is not created.

Could you please post your modified ebuild?

            You're killing me...
Actually, I rebuilt mplayer with AMDXvBA support, but when I play an h.264 video I get a lot of
            Code:
            VDec: vo config request - 1920 x 816 (preferred colorspace: Planar YV12)
Could not find matching colorspace - retrying with -vf scale...
            Opening video filter: [scale]
The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec.
Try appending the scale filter to your filter list,
e.g. -vf spp, scale instead of -vf spp.
which enforces your doubt (and my delusion...)

                    No.

As I earlier, I get this in my Xorg.0.log:
                    Code:
(EE) AIGLX error: fglrx exports no extensions (/usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driDriverExtensions)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
Another poster is also getting the same errors.

When I enable Desktop Effects in KDE4 with 8.11 the screen turns and stays black with only the shadows of windows being drawn. Everything stays responsive though.

I had, but I reverted back to XServer 1.4 due to a critical bug when using Wine and another one at display configuration.

EDIT: Ah well, just to make clear: Compiz worked for me in both 1.4 AND 1.5.
