  • When will the next xf86-video-ati driver be released?

It's been about 4 months since the last release (6.9.0) and many changes have been made in that time. Is there a schedule for release, or does anyone know when the next release will come?

    Thanks!

No idea, but you can always get the latest changes from the git repos
    Code:
    git-clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati
and use directly or make a package for your distro

The other (easier) way to do it is to download directly from Tormod Volden's packages site, at least for Ubuntu packages.

My question was more related to the release plan, though... is there a schedule for release? What justifies a "release" as far as the team's methodology is concerned?

A new release of xf86-video-ati would be a good idea, considering that many distros now ship git snapshots of the driver, in order to support more hardware.

I agree it would be nice to have a 6.10.0 release with current master before the merging of GEM/KMS support. The only thing that would be nice to have before the release is defaulting to EXA when:
          • compiled against a recent enough version of xserver (EXA works well for me at least since 1.4), and
          • using radeon kernel module 1.29.0 or later.

At least it would be nice to have a 6.9.191 test version.
