Phoronix: Fedora 10 Prepares For Development Freeze

The release date for Fedora 10 (codenamed Cambridge) is less than one month away and as a result this Red Hat distribution will go into a development freeze beginning Tuesday. The Fedora 10 Beta occurred in late September, but over the course of the past month there have been three snapshot releases. In the third and final snapshot that was released this past week there are new improvements to this popular Linux distribution along with a new desktop background and better integrated version of Plymouth to greet its users. We have also recorded a new video showing the enhanced start-up process via kernel-based mode-setting.

    Fedora 10 and stock kernels.

So does this mean that Fedora 10 won't boot/work correctly with a stock kernel until KMS becomes main-stream?

The transition to gdm looks smooth, but that progress bar while booting is a bit too much. Is it possible to disable it?

no, it will work .. if KMS, vesafb and EFI are not available it will fall back to a text mode progress bar and boot just fine.

KMS only works for r500/600 hw right now. The intel code is not ready yet so its disabled.

                  Intel G45

Does anyone know if it will install on a G45 mobo yet? Both the alpha and first beta had serious install/plymouth/anaconda/ etc. problems.

I've used Fedora 10 Snapshot 3 on a G45 motherboard without KMS and it worked but there were serious rendering glitches. On a G43 motherboard it would segv when starting due to GEM.
