  • Biostar TA790GX-A2+

I just built a new system with the following:

Biostar TA790GX-A2+ (with the new SB700 chipset)
    Phenom 9850 (not overclocked)
    8gb PC2 6400 RAM
    EVGA 8800GTX

I installed Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit on it, and everything is working very well - Ubuntu even found the built-on sound card without any undue gyrations.

    That's great, man!

By the way - J Simmons rocks

May i question you a few things?
    1) Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit what is the feel? This build is good?
I'm thinking of getting this one on my new PC.

    2) How is it possible to check what drivers are included with the build? Full list...

I'm new to Linux and im tired of Windows.

    3) Is this version totally free? Future updates possible?

It feels the same as the 32-bit version, maybe a bit faster. I didn't check what drivers are available before installing. I just bit the bullet and went for it. Yeah it's free. Updates are made available on an as-needed basis, and you will be prompted by the OS when they are.

          Is the HD3300 detected?
          Full 3D graphics?

I am planning a mythbuntu (same drivers I believe)HTPC with this MOBO and a Phenom 9850. Just getting more info before I take the plunge.

I'm using a 8800gtx in my system, and have disabled the onboard video. I don't see why Linux wouldn't see the video controller though.

I'm planning a mythbuntu build with this board and a BE 2400. It's my first build since '97; looking forward to diving in tomorrow night.

Did you get the onboard video to work?

                Hi everyone,

as I wrote here: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=46493 the HD3300 on 790GX doesn't seem to be supported atm.

                Sincerly,

                  hi!
according to https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206..._89_linux.html, HD 3300 is supported. i understand you have some problems with installing these drivers, so maybe look around at http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Main_Page
here you have instructions for Catalyst 8.8 with Ubuntu Hardy:

This release note is new to me. I did not see the HD3300 in the list where you choose OS and type of card and so on, I took HD3200 instead but used 8.9. I already tried the wiki link but didn't work.

Due to my board is a Gigabyte MA790GP-DS4H and not a Biostar I will post everything into the other thread.
