  • PIII PCI AGP ATX Motherboard Upgrade

!!I have not kept up in the ways of modern Hardware!!
Want a little more speed for a real low price.
Suggestion for motherboard memory CPU combo to upgrade.
    SUSE 10.X (no Windows :-) )

    Current configuration:
    PIII 500MHZ ATX
    ---keep power supply??
    768 Meg Ram PC133
    PCI IBM SCUSI Controler DCAS-34330W
-- which I like to keep.
RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro AGP
-- Would like new board to have integrated Video 3D to replace this
IDE DVD-RW and (Disk which is not currently used.)
    Creative Labs Audigy2
-- which I like to keep.
    SCSI drives in separate case
    3 IBM SCSI disk drives
    1 Yamaha SCSI CD-RW
    1 EXIBYTE SCSI Tape Drive
-- I like to keep my drives and SCSI controller.
2 100MZ Linksys Ethernet PCI cards
    --can loose with integrated Ethernet
    1.3 - 1.5 GHZ would be great upgrade--I don't game.
I am pretty broke all the time!!

You can find computers faster than yours just left out on the curb for trash. You can also look at computer stores, classified ads, and eBay for cheap P4 or Athlon XP systems that are much, much faster than a 500 MHz PIII but cost less than a hundred bucks. If you want new parts, you can buy an inexpensive socket AM2 AMD 690G board and a Sempron or low-end Athlon 64 X2 for $80-120 and a couple of gigs of DDR2 for $40-50 or so. That will be phenomenally faster than a 500 MHz Katmai PIII as the Semprons and low-end Athlon 64 X2s are in the low 2 GHz range and quite a bit faster clock-for-clock as well.
