also.. its not true what you say about the decoding.. you might wanna check out the ffmpeg branch to do the multithreaded decoding on a frame-basis.. also.. some patches last year split up oither tasks(abandoned?)

Post the links, I've been member of the most AV forums for a better part of a decade.

BTW you do realize that frame-basis encoding is a far inferior in terms of lower packet loss rates and lower packet delay?

its also the only way that it seems to be possible to really do it for some streams...
