  • Dumb question about partitions

I am currently thinking of shipping in very cheap a no-name, main-in-china notebook that has a Celeron processor, 32GB soldered down SSD and 2GB of soldered down RAM. However, this little toy has an SD card slot.

I was just wondering, can I assign the soldered SSD to be /, slap in a 64GB SD card and have the installer use that sd card as /home ?

I've done this, but your mileage may vary depending on the distribution installer. You should consider a non-journal fs for /home and expect that it will be SLOOOOW. Other than that... have fun.

Be warned, many SD readers are really flaky. I wouldn't trust my /home to one.
