Phoronix: 22-Way AMD/NVIDIA OpenCL Linux Benchmarks To Start Off 2015

As it's been a while since last running any large OpenCL benchmark comparisons, here's some updated figures for a wide-range of AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. In total twenty-two graphics cards were tested with the latest AMD and NVIDIA drivers to see the current OpenCL GPU performance.

I remember there was a bit progress in Mesa 10.4, but there is still lacks...

Unfortunately Nvidia is still in OpenCL 1.1, in a time OpenCL 1.2 is already old news.

What about open-source OpenCL?

As far as I know, open-source OpenCL already (somewhat) works, at least on Radeon cards.

On Debian/sid, get packages:

libclc-r600
mesa-opencl-icd

and you can run OpenCL apps on Mesa drivers.

And they run faster than my CPU. Not sure how fast compared to Catalyst or Nvidia cards with closed drivers.

Hmm, I can only see r600 supported so far, not other cards.

Would be nice if Phoronix would test some more GPU specific loads. Say, BFGMiner is a nice opensource utility. For benchmark purposes it can be both interesting to test SHA256 and scrypt. First one is massively parallel workload, especially good for GPUs. Second one is RAM bandwidth hog and puts a nice stress on GPU VRAM. Then there is infamous John The Ripper out with quite some GPU support in Jumbo build. Now you can audit security of your passwords using GPUs and it can be really smart idea to measure real security of passwords in this strange new world full of massively parallel GPUs.

With the new CUDA 7.0 runtime, NVIDIA is now at OpenCL 1.2 compliance.
