    My laptop has a Kaveri APU and only a DP port, I connect it with a DP-to-HDMI converter to a monitor and audio works. This on Fedora 21 with kernel 3.17.8.
    Does the converter magically make audio work?

      I guess: DP Port but HDMI Signal or do you use a active converter?

        The first one I guess
        ## VGA ##
        AMD: X1950XTX, HD3870, HD5870
        Intel: GMA45, HD3000 (Core i5 2500K)

          Does HDMI audio cleanup mean reduced CPU usage and improved performance for HDMI audio?

            I'm pretty sure it's a passive converter, I mean it's a cheap 10? converter without any external power source so my money is on passive.
            Might be an HDMI signal routed on DP, how can I check for sure?

              Ok I think I solved the "mystery", it's a dual-mode (DP++) port: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Dual-mode

                If you use a passive adapter, it's actually TMDS (HDMI) signalling, not DP.

                  Alex, any plans on implementing dual-graphics in radeon (for notebooks) any time soon?

                    What exactly do you mean as "dual-graphics"? Both variants of PowerXpress with hardware mux (via vgaswitcheroo) and without it (via DRI PRIME and Runtime Power Management to disable secondary GPU when idling) are working now.

                    Or you mean CrossFire? Then it's not really kernel feature and have to be handled in user space.
