How does it compare with the blob in simple workloads?

Hi, is this driver installed by default in the newest raspberry pi images (like raspbian, openelec). If not how to install/activate it, does it need xorg >= 1.16? My main question is, is it possible to accelerate the 2d Desktop (Gnome, Kde, Cinnamon, mate) with this driver?

        1) No
2)(Cross-)Compile mesa from source, replace $(ditro)'s graphic stack. Unsure about needed X version.
3)That's what GLAMOR is for. Theoretically, it should. Practically, check performance...

I'm planning to test the new stack in february and I will probably include it in my distro: http://www.linuxsystems.it/raspbian-...minimal-image/
