Phoronix: AMDKFD Is Present For Linux 3.19 In Open-Source HSA Start

The AMDKFD driver, which has been under development in the public spotlight for the past few months as a necessary piece to having AMD HSA open-source support on Linux, will premiere with the Linux 3.19 kernel...

This will be huge if their performance can get up to or beyond nVidia's

Nvidia's what? They don't have an HSA solution for Tegra.

for whatever reason my IP ended up being blocked from the FreeDesktop.org Git server so only regained access yesterday and have been catching up with the Git changes across the various interesting repositories
You can do it like this:
        Code:
        sudo apt-get install tor
        service tor start
        torsocks git clone
or you can use VPN services, there are even free ones, e.g. ukpptp.hotfreevpn.com, login: free, password: 1234. This is the kind of things we learn in Russia since github was blocked yesterday.

Does AMDKFD apply to kabini? i've tried researching but it's unclear to me.
(I have the A4-5000 BTW, not the AM1 Kabinis)

            I don't get it

I don't get it. What is the point of HSA?

It sound very uninteresting and useless if it is a AMD-only thing.
Without Intel, Nvidia or others, it does not have any appeal.

Tell that to cuda It's scary how much scientific stuff out there is dependent on it.

HSA is simply AMD's branding of the long-envisioned merging of the CPU and GPU which eliminates the overhead of GPU-CPU transfers. Intel is working on something similar.

Getting there first could be really big for AMD, but I hope that we end up with an open standard and not another cuda.

It is not AMD-only, is is also ARM. Eliminating the need for explicit memory transfers between GPU and CPU is very exciting.

Kabini doesn't support HSA, so: No.
