        It's good to see som progress on this project again.

        These days as CPU development is stagnant, optimizing of code is more important than ever, as people keep demanding more performance and energy efficiency. I wish to see many more of these important Linux and Unix libraries and utilities get optimized.

            What incentive do they have to support it? Apple lossless is open sourced under the Apache license, produces equal or better quality, at smaller file sizes.

              Simple one, helping their users who requested this for a long time already. FLAC is the actually used by various stores which sell music in lossless, unlike ALAC which isn't used anywhere. But Apple's point it to screw their users, not to help them.

              And by the way, you can't have "equal or better" quality there. If it's lossless it's lossless. If it's not equal - it's not lossless anymore.
