      It can be done. FLACCL is a FLAC encoder that uses OpenCL to speed up encoding. http://www.cuetools.net/wiki/FLACCL It was originally based on CUDA but later switched to OpenCL for greater compatibility and performance.

      However, the speed increases in FLAC 1.3.1 are quite impressive and make the new 1.3.1 reference encoder actually faster than FLACCL, especially on more recent CPUs. Try it out for yourself: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/flac/
