If Valve or anyone else manages to launch a product targeted at gamers that sells multiple million units, support for it will become a mandatory requirement for most AAA developers. It will not matter if it has ARM, x86, MIPS or PowerPC architecture. Or if it runs Linux, BSD or Plan 9. As long as it can render 3D content with reasonable quality and performance and comes with decent info on how to program for it.

Game developers just want to make as much money as easily as possible. For now the easiest way is to write games for consoles and for Windows running on Intel CPUs with Nvidia GPUs, but if anything else were to become popular they would switch in an instant.
