freedesktop.org .desktop files and rpm packaging for apps? That's some pretty cool shit right there. Oh and SDL2 as an officially supported gaming API, awesome.

I hope that there will be an official statement about the GPU.
I really hope Imagination is reading these forums. If they do, they should hang their legal department. Closed drivers and dickhead attitude won't help anyone.

          From http://www.merproject.org/logs/%23sa...11-21.log.html

ParkerR Question: how open is the Jolla tablet to alternate OS installs? (Since it is basically just a laptop) 03:58

JayBusch ParkerR: Good question. But why would you want to run anything else? 07:36
situ ParkerR: I expect it to be hackable, so it should be able to run any OS. 07:37
Stskeeps i hope to make a post about hardware openness on the thing 07:37
Stskeeps i doubt windows will boot, except maybe in a VM 07:37
situ Stskeeps: Any reasons for choosing intel chips ? 07:38
Stskeeps situ: good price point for the GPU capability 07:38
Stskeeps it's not easy to find things at that pricepoint driving 2K displays 07:38
JayBusch Makes sense. Intel has dropped prices dramatically while still performing well enough. 07:39

situ Stskeeps: Has it been tested on arm chips too ? Are you going to make instructions available to port it to other Android tablets ? 07:43
Stskeeps situ: sailfishos as such is quite portable as you know.. 07:44
          Stskeeps it's not a different codeline. 07:44
Stskeeps people would rebel if we started having branched sailfishos 07:44
          Stskeeps :P 07:44
situ I am just thinking about the compiler errors we get while porting from 32 bit to 64 bit and vice versa :P 07:45
Stskeeps ah.. not going to be an issue 07:45

situ Stskeeps: Are you using any properietary android drivers on this device too ? 07:50
Stskeeps situ: currently that's what it looks like. we need to go for known working and supported. if mesa/kms works, that's another thing 07:53
situ Which android version is it based on ? Jolla phone was 4.1 IIRC. 07:54
JayBusch situ: Probably the same then, especially if they're not about to start branching the code. But this is only a guess. 08:01
situ JayBusch: Ok, I hope details will come out soon which will make things clear. 08:02
JayBusch situ: I do too, but we must be patient.

Soooooo, anyone else remember when Sailfish's Interface was "totally going to be open sourced"?

            (It is still closed source)
