Cant get working Kaveri APU - A10-7850k

  • Cant get working Kaveri APU - A10-7850k

    Hi,

    I have the following system:

    AMD A10-7850K 3.7Ghz - AD785KXBJABOX
    AsRock FM2A88X Extreme4+
    G.Skill Ares DDR3 2133 PC3-17000 16GB 2x8GB CL10 - F3-2133C10D-16GABATA KINGSTON SV300S3 SSD

    I've tried several versions of Linux with several kernels and there is no way to install Catalyst drivers, and with the opensource drivers the acceleration is not working.

    I've also tried with Win7 but whenever I install Catalyst the system fails to boot and the only way to make it work again is recovering to a previous state where the video driver was not installed.

    When I boot linux (even with a live-cd) I obtain these errors regarding drm and radeon (opensource driver):

    I'm not sure how to determine if I have a defective APU or maybe a missconfigured UEFI (I've never overclocked)

    Maybe you need a bios update. I recall needing a bios update for that APU to get something, which I forget, working.

                Nothing to do with firmware. Linux is still shit for embedded RadeonSI graphics and no one has found a way to arrest these GPU lockups.

                You have 4 choices:

                - downgrade kernel and install Catalyst
                - downgrade kernel, rebuild Gnome 3 without EGL / Wayland support and install Catalyst
                - compile latest kernel + Mesa from git and pray that it works
                - live without acceleration

                For what it's worth, I have the same problem on a Kabini. A4-5000.

                    Nonsense, I've been running a laptop with an A4-5000 without any bugs at all for the last year or so -- perfect hardware acceleration with every kernel and mesa version. It even works well on OpenCL benchmarks with Gallium.
