  • Fan control issue after suspend/resume

I have a Radeon R7 260X, and it seems that the default fan speed in the BIOS is 40%. So when I turn on my PC, the fan runs at 40% until I boot into Linux or Windows, and then Catalyst slows it down to a quiet 18% at idle. It seems that 40% is the maximum that it ramps up to under heavy load, and it's pretty loud.

Here's my issue with Linux (I'm running Ubuntu 14.04)... Whenever I suspend and resume my computer, the GPU fan speed just ramps up to 40% and stays there no matter what. I don't have this issue under Windows, so it seems to be a Catalyst bug in the Linux version. Does anybody else have this issue? It's really quite loud and annoying.

The open-source radeon driver doesn't have fan control at all, but it seems to be a WIP: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73338

I'd like to hear if others experience this as well, and if there is a way to fix it... I'm really surprised that I can't find any discussion about it online.
Working...
