Or more specifically, Ubuntu 14.10.

I was running Catalyst 14.6 Beta fine on Ubuntu 14.10 alpha with kernel 3.16. I expect this to work just as well!

Unfortunately, no. It doesn't work on current Utopic versions with X.Org Server 1.16.

Tried a while ago.

3.16.3: Yes.
3.17: Nope. DKMS fails.
