Nice to see the R9 290 being pretty fast. I guess Hawaii get a great deal of love from the devs, being the flagship and all.

AFAIK in the open source driver the focus so far has been on getting it running, don't think there has been any Hawaii-specific performance work yet. It's just a big fast GPU.

Probably a different story for Catalyst though.

Still wishing for some DotA2 testing (time demo or something)!

It really stresses the Source engine in a whole different way.

Last I tried there were issues in getting a Dota 2 time demo properly recorded / played back compared to other Source games.

So unfortunate for HD6950. It gets beaten constantly by HD6870. Although the market prices are nearly same, its clear that 6950 architecture is heavily underperforming now.

It looks like the best bang for the buck is still HD5850/70 and HD6850/70.

That together with 5450 are 64bit bus width cards . Those are not really for mainstream gaming, but casuals shoud work

And yeah hyperz plays big role on those , not sure if it is enabled looks like it is not Numbers looks fine if hyperz is not enabled

Is there a way to disable hyperz in fglrx? I remember there was an option in windows catalyst driver... but OK maybe not, that was 10 years ago

Results from earlier this month largely doing such a comparison with not many Mesa/DRM improvements since.... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...316_good&num=1 And of course the pre-HD5000 hardware not working with Catalyst anymore.
