  • The status of Blu-ray on Linux

    Greetings,

I know off the bat that all commercial Blu-ray discs are encrypted up the ying yang. However I was thinking of the possibility of using Blu-ray for data storage.

Currently, I have only ever burned single layer DVD+Rs.

What can one do with Blu-ray technology on Linux?
Can anyone recommend a Blu-ray writer that works with Linux?

I believe using bluray for data has been fully supported in cdrtools since 2009. The real cdrtools if you're using a Debian derivative.

I don't personally have such a drive though, so that's only what the sw says.

Just buy the latest LG burner and you're good to go but you should be aware that there are going to be updates to BD coming next year to give higher capacities and that may require new drives.
