I'm afraid that evaluating the share of operating systems in the server sphere is not simple. So no one here has any legs to stand on for making definitive statements. But if you'll look at the web, you'll notice BSD does evidently have a big share - NetFlix's streaming servers for one.

Please look at http://searchdns.netcraft.com/?host=netflix&x=0&y=0. There is no sign of filthy BSD anywhere.

Look at phoronix benchmarks, boot up any BSD on a i7 4GB workstation and Linux on a intel atom 1GB netbook. You'll see the difference, very a big difference flavoring Linux.

Completely flawed logic. Windows is a special case because of vendor lock in. If it weren't for vendor lock in, windows' popularly will only be just 3 times higher then BSD.

I like it when people laugh at the thought of BSD being a good server, when html serving is perhaps it's biggest strength and is often faster than Linux in that regard.

Here's a bunch of benchmarks with some BSDs and Linux. The one that BSD beats the pants off Linux is with the Apache static page serving.

Edit: Keep in mind it was 1 year ago, and it was one benchmark out of many, so don't get your knickers in a twist. (I'm looking at you Pawlerson and endman)
