I support Ericg 's viewpoint, that's probably the main reason. OpenMax isn't widely used AFAIK, and Intel already uses VAAPI (for both video decode and encode) which is used and supported by some...

Could you elaborate on this? I face stability issues as well, and I'm wondering why the current driver isn't rock solid like Intel's driver is.

Really? That's too bad. I was contemplating Arch Linux with Plasma Active or GNOME 3, Wayland etc could be installed on that tablet.

Most modern GPUs don't have 2D engine. 2D acceleration if any is provided by using 3D engine. For each GPU card generation/series, you will need to write code to implement 2D acceration using 3D...

So, with these kernel changes, changing resolution and enabling multiple monitors should be more reliable and flicker-free, right?

Is the code ready for testing yet? Which branch do I need to...
  8. Could be bad RAM?

I doubt it's due to heat, most machines shut down when they overheat rather than restart (although this could be new behaviour)

The first thing you need to check is RAM - get some working laptop...

AFAIK Tegra support is on the kernel side only. They have not released any user space code at all.

I believe the only reason NVIDIA even has open source kernel driver is because they are forced...

I'm more interested in the port to Qt5 and Wayland - it's not going to be part of 4.13, right?
  13. Great news!

Now, getting a Raspberry Pi is actually worth it
  14. AMD VDPAU bugfix also included

There was a bug in the AMD VDPAU driver - it incorrectly reported some video decoding capabilities. VLC (and possibly others) wouldn't use VDPAU for video decoding in that case (althugh mplayer did)....
  15. What benchmarks should I run for xf86-video-ati vs xf86-video-glamor?

I'm wondering what benchmarks I can run to test the performance of xf86-video-ati and xf86-video-glamor
  16. Layout is a bit off on Firefox

On the home page, the list of articles section seems to be pretty wide, and comes very close to the advertisements. It would look better if it was slightly narrower.

YES! THIS is what I want! I've been thinking about this question many times - where are the Intel phones with Intel GPUs? I was hoping there would actually be phones with Valleyview/Baytrail - I'm...
  18. Great news!

This is great news! I am glad that AMD has decided that providing a proper open source driver is important. Thank you developers! Now, time to go do some testing....

What stupid arguments. Who said employees were listening in to the phone call? It's most likely a computer program that intercepts the audio, and can record the audio call/conversation to a hard...

    Yes! Finally! Awesome job AMD!

This is awesome news! Video acceleration through the dedicated hardware video decoders on the graphics card exposed in the open source drivers through VDPAU. What I've dreamed about for a pretty long...
