I agree with you, and I hope Wayland will change everything, but it isn't here yet (at least it isn't usable), and correct me if I'm wrong, Martin isn't talking about future 'lightweight' KWin...
Moving windows around was perfect scenario for composited WM, and yet it didn't go that well (on nvidia at least). Here's example, why I'm not using compositing, even on quite fast hardware...
wallpaper + 10x kate window all over the desktop + konsole
KWin - ~17,5%
X like before
Openbox - like before
X - ~15%
Like I said here http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?78692-Plasma-2-With-KDE-Frameworks-5-Looks-Awesome&p=318795&highlight=#post318795
6-8% - Kwin
2-4% - X
4% - X...
I totally agree with you. Imho, no big deal if Krita (probably even average Linux user don't know what it is) can make $5k or BSD over $500k every year.
If I donate there, will KDE e.V hire professional designer? I don't think so. Wasn't krita campaign http://pledgie.com/campaigns/7221 big win for everybody?
http://pledgie.com ? http://www.kickstarter.com ? KDE looks really horrible. I'll be more than happy to donate.
Your graphics drivers sux then.
From x.org old docs:
On nvidia card, it's 2-3% single 1.6Ghz Sandy Bridge core (when uncomposited, of course)
And when exactly (OpenGL composited) KWin offloading CPU for windows management under X? Since backing store is here, it uses more CPU cycles even for moving windows.
Hidden folders are omitted by default. System Settings -> Desktop Search -> Customize Folders
Hidden files in search result window are probably just hidden ;) Press "Alt + ." in Dolphin.
Of course not, that's the point.
I wasn't aware of kfind and locate integration, anyway I'm not using locate, so it's acts like frontend to find command.
Yes, like i mentioned...
Indexed data disk stores ~60 000 files. None of them is hidden/excluded from indexing. Only ~half of them was indexed (level 1). Just for confirmation, Kfind and Dolphin using Nepomuk database had...
Yes, kinda works now. Unfortunately, results are far from reliable.
Long story short, it doesn't work at all ;) https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314559#c13
Here's exaple of rendering gtk2 widget factory with Clearlooks theme.
I'm not impressed. When uncached, wants to kill my HDD, then my CPU (fricking 2500K), and that dir isn't that big.
This is mplayer (not mplayer2) http://youtu.be/7VtHz4RNfac
It's not "5 fps cursor" but video shuttering is unacceptable, same as desktop experience at framerate < ~60 FPS
... and it's confirmed http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2553685&postcount=25
Seriously, first paragraph:
