Well that's of course only valid if you're building the source yourself. If this is built into pre-compiled binaries, compile time becomes very irrelevant to the user.

Well you're either going to need a new motherboard that uses UEFI instead of a BIOS screen, or figure out a way to skip the bios screen (can be done easily with laptop ASUS computers for example).

Yeah, that's likely the reason; if the OS is tailored to the computer, it tends to work better.
Another reason preinstalled Linux computers would be very convenient if they were more prevalent.

Yeah I find Arch has a lot less hacks and bugs than Ubuntu, probably because it has a lot less unnecessary shit/patches, but Arch can be a bitch to setup.
I find Fedora's the same as Arch, but is...

Thankfully the open source community isn't so commercially bound; betamax didn't fail because it was better.

Though I think it needs at least another year before it's usable, there's a lot of reasons X needs to be replaced, and one reason is that wayland is a much better system. Ubuntu probably should be...

If you look at the kernel versions with each release, 6.0 was Vista, and 6.1 was seven... so wonder what Window Eight has coming, 6.2 or 7.0?
So where the hell did Windows Seven and Eight come from?...

Oh cool, i didn't know about Kahel OS. I'll have to give it a shot sometime, as it might be better than using fedora.

    Thanks for the info!

With the invention of RPMFusion, that's all you really need anymore, besides flash from the adobe repo, but I use Chrome so no need.

I switched to Fedora when I realized how bleeding edge it was and how often packages update. Debian is great but updates at a snails pace unless you use the unstable stuff (let me stress unstable)....
