    Exchange support

To those of you whining about a lack of Exchange support, try Davmail:

    http://davmail.sourceforge.net/

I use it to access my University's email server via Claws Mail with no issues.

There's STILL AFTER ALL THIS TIME, TEARING on Xvideo. Kaffeine segfaults when trying to watch dvb using Xvideo. Same old story as always. There is a horizontal line across my screen watching...

I second this. This might seem drastic but get another motherboard if you can. SIS are cheap but their stuff is absolute crap. Avoid SIS at all costs.

I have exactly the same problem, that is with the video looking really soft. Well at least Xv doesn't crash the X-server any more. Maybe the next release will fix further bugs.

X-video better but not quite there yet

Well Xv does now work for me with several caveats:

-colours are 'washed out' and not correct. I think this is a known issue
-kaffeine crashes when trying to access DVB
    -there is STILL tearing...

OMG! This is what I've been waiting for. I've been stuck using Windows to watch videos cos of the awful tearing problem in fglrx! What will I need to build the git code on Debian testing? Some...

I think I need to clarify my original post a bit. What I'm basically saying is

    1. That in a couple of years I reckon CPUs will be quick enough to play HD content without GPU acceleration. So...
  9. Why I think the DRM and open source debate is nonsense

I reckon that CPUs will get fast enough to handle HD content in a couple of years without GPU acceleration. I can remember back in the late 90s/early 00s when you had to have GPU acceleration or a...

I've switched to RadeonHD, but if the next fglrx version fixes the switching VT bug and video tearing I might go back...until RadeonHD is fully functional of course.

    Given up on fglrx

I now use the RadeonHD driver which works well. At least it doesn't crash when switching between the console and X, something I do all the time. I'd advise anyone who doesn't need 3D acceleration...

  15. A few quick tips for Debian Users. w.r.t RadeonHD

If you follow the Ubuntu install it should work with the following tips:

    -be sure to install libpci-dev
    -run ./configure --prefix=/usr
-make, then checkinstall will create a deb package for you...

Just tried the driver. It's good for basic use. Much quicker when switching to a vt and for general screen redraws. Can't wait for the fully functional driver! Hopefully then I can kiss goodbye to...

For once 7.11 was better than the previous release. The tearing on Videos using OpenGL is still there, but it is nowhere near as bad as it previously was. They've also hired or are hiring new...
  18. Reality check - AMD needs to get their priorities right.

I'm quite bemused by all these people complaining that they can't get Compiz working. Some of us do not have usable video playback or working suspend/resume or the fglrx driver just doesn't work at...

Don't count on it. I've had the same problems for over six months with fglrx, and Xv nearly always crashes the X-server. AMD/ATI must be losing customers at breakneck speed with their crappy...

    Hi Snake,

I'm really interested in your experiences as I am running a Core 2 Duo with Mobility Radeon X1400 (Debian Testing X86-64). I haven't tried and don't care about the daft wobbly windows...
