That is essentially how many ITX systems work already. There is an internal board that has a standard 24 pin connector and connectors for Sata etc and an external round power connector as per a...

I have built an E350 box using an older version of the Antec case mentioned by @Zanny. The 60w external brick is very efficient. The same motherboard uses about 9w less at idle when using the brick...

It will depend on the Jessie roadmap and when they freeze. It looks like 3.10 is going to be skipped in the same way Debian skipped 3.6. If we are lucky 3.12 will be in testing before the freeze and...

    Ridiculous Concept

Anyone with the faintest idea of what a Chromebook or Chromebox is would laugh at the suggestion of running Windows programs in ChromeOS. Or even wanting to.

What you can do is run remote Windows...

That should have read 2.5" HDD, but no editing after 5 minutes. I think my HDMI issues were more a cable issue than the Cubieboard, but now I have lost interest in solving that - for the moment.

    Cubieboard 2

I thought along the same lines as Michael. Can you make a working desktop computer out of a cheap ARM board? After a lot of reading I bought a Cubieboard 2. Dual core Allwinner, good community and a...
  7. No problem here either

I am with Calinou, I have never had that issue. And even after months of updates apt-get clean is instantaneous. I do not compile a lot, and my projects are relatively small, but make clean is also...

    More on SSDs

We are getting more off topic here, but @jwilliams you seem to be very anti SSD. Once I used my first one I could never go back. I have a Mini-ITX machine with an Intel i3-2120 and an OCZ 256GB SSD...

It should be part of the installer

I am up to my fourth SSD and they all work fine with Arch and Debian. When I got my first one I read a whole lot of HowTos and stuff that are all pretty much way out of date. The modern installer...

    Icons on desktop

@Bucic is correct, Gnome 2.x and Mate are just so last century.

Personally I hate icons strewn all over a desktop. But, if that is what you want it is one click in Gnome Tweak Tool. Most shell...

    Kabini Chromebook

I take it this paves the way for a Kabini Chromebook. They have all been Intel CPU/GPU so far. This might allow for even cheaper Chromebooks. As a secondary device I find my Acer Chromebook very...

That is what PPAs are for

Xorg and Wayland PPAs already exist. How hard can it be to add one or the other to Kubuntu? Admittedly the PPAs are not official and lack resources, but they seem to do a pretty good job of keeping...
  14. Flash and PDF

It is fairly easy to retrofit Pepper Flash and the Google PDF reader from Chrome to Chromium. Maybe Ubuntu could do a deal with Google and Adobe to allow those to items into the default install and...

In Tweak Tool under "Windows" I set middle click on title bar to minimise. If you use a laptop it might be a bit more difficult, but you could probably re-purpose right click on title bar without any...

Someone with Steam experience please speak up

    @Zoran

What we really need is someone with Steam experience to speak up and tell us what card they use. I can only speak theoretically. I know through a friend that GT610s work fine (Xubuntu...

A GT630 is still miles better than HD2000, but of course any of the GTX series is going to be way better than a GT. But then the price climbs rapidly. This one is close to "under $100".

There are many answers to that question

Maybe look at a GT630 at around $75. It is a rebadged GT440. Much better than HD2000, but still mid-range. Will work with Nvidia Linux drivers. You should be able to get a GT640 for under a hundred....
