.NET is uses Win32 as it's not a new Windows NT subsystem just like mono, python perl or java.
Win32 is the base of nearly everything on Windows. Even the posix support is no new subsystem.
As the aproach is very difficult, wouldn't it be easyer to unfiy path and file names across distros? And maybe the package names?

The should corporate with KDE, with KFC5 it should be possible to use only the stuff they want.
The address bar is usally only used about 1/2 most of the space is empty. In opion nearly everything except back and forward and home should be there.

Usally I'm a KDE guy but GNOME helps and drives many software that is used by KDE and co too.
So use libvlc too? Why don't use vlc or gstreamer?
