Indeed - who is John Galt?
Yes Bravo. There are Linux distros that will benefit from this work as well.
I didn't see any mention of it in the write up, but does this release support managing Linux containers?
Love to see some benchmarks. Until then it's just another hypervisor project, in a world where containers are the king of performance.
It looks very idsoftware to me - shades of doom!
To be sure, there are further opportunities for optimization in the Linux kernel. BSD has been doing things right for many years.
While netflix apparently does have some FreeBSD servers, it is well known that they have a major investment in Linux infrastructure.
The statements that "Linux is the fastest" and "We want to make it faster" are not mutually exclusive
Here's what a Facebook engineer just said on that subject:
Chris Mason started off the session by noting that, at his employer (Facebook), Linux is used anywhere that it is faster than FreeBSD —...
Creature feep, of course. Wait til you see the garbage collector and the process scheduler in the next release of systemd.
Myspace was all about microsoft windows. I once asked someone working there why they didn't use Linux. Do you know what they said? "The things we are doing here are so cool and awesome that windows...
Back in the early '90s I worked at University of California, and had a lot of hands on with FreeBSD, NetBSD and Linux. At that time, the BSDs were like well oiled machines, firing on all cylinders,...
Yeah, really. After years of discussion, I'd love to finally see how wayland feels and performs. Not xwayland, but the real deal.
Excellent and helpful info, thanks
Interesting to see how nvidia+nouveau has surpassed the performance of intel graphics - In the past I always used nvidia+binary blob for gaming, but more recently I've been using straight intel...
Yes, I was just reading the results and scratching my head... "is this an improvement, is it a regression? nobody knows...."
What I would love to see (and what is crying out to be benchmarked against the hypervisor solutions) is container-based virtualization.
It would be a real eye opener to compare the 30%...
You lack imagination if you think this is all good and have no clue as to how there could possibly be any hidden gotchas. This is microsoft we're talking about here - do you really think they are...
It is now official. Netcraft has confirmed: *BSD is dying. See the link below for more information.
WTH? I don't see how an encrypted home dir would affect the benchmarks unless you're running the benchmarks inside the encrypted home dir. If that is the case, these numbers perhaps represent only a...
