    How about designated initializers?

They've been in C since C99. Maybe 15 years is enough time for useful features to make it from C into C++?

The $750 OGD1 card was not just a framebuffer VGA; the point was to run 3D acceleration in the FPGA. The FPGA was not able to hold as many shaders or run as fast as an ATI or Nvidia chip, but it was...

Sure, and the easy fix is for them to start.

I've never worked on a project where there were separately built modules that depended on my code, yet it was considered acceptable for me to make ABI...

The dummy DDX driver should remain separate rather than being merged, exactly so that it can serve as an example of how to write a modular driver.

I don't understand why anyone thinks that merging...

Thanks chronniff, I'll give that a try. I hadn't found any info on the problem when I searched, but I probably just didn't hit the right combination of words in the search.

    Hopefully 10.9 will...

black rectangles where 2D stuff fails to render

I've just upgraded from Fedora 12 to Fedora 13, and from Catalyst 10.4 to 10.8. It sort of works, but I see a lot of places where 2D rendering is failing and I'm getting black rectangles. For...
  7. Fedora not using sysvinit

I think it would be more accurate to say that they are in the process of switcing, since Fedora 14 isn't due to be released until November.

Fedora hasn't been using sysvinit for more than two...

Maybe this one will support the Radeon HD 5830. I won't be able to try it, since I already exchanged mine for a Radeon HD 5850, which worked with 10.4.

As far as I was able to determine (and no one here has said otherwise), Catalyst 10.4 doesn't seem to support the 5830. Maybe 10.5 will. Since it uses the same chip as the 5850 and 5870, it's might...

I don't know about Ubuntu, but my experience with Fedora was that the first step of getting it installed was to return to the store and exchange it for a 5850. AFAIK, that's not Fedora-specific.

I returned the HD 5830 and got an HD 5850 instead. It works fine with Catalyst 10.4.

Yes, the device ID is 689e. Without the card, Catalyst 10.4 sees the IGP and it works fine. The full lspci output is in the second post in this thread. Is there any option to force the driver to...

bridgman, thanks for the suggestion, but aticonfig, even with just the -h or --help options, reports that no supported graphics cards are found.

I don't see any way to manually disable the IGP in the BIOS, but it looks like the BIOS is doing it automatically. With the 5830 installed, the lspci output shows only the 5830 and not the IGP.

Catalyst 10.4 fglrx support for HD 5830?

I have an x86_64 computer running Fedora 12. It has a Radeon HD 4200 IGP, which was working fine with Catalyst 10.4 and my Dell 3008WFP (2560x1600). However, I wanted higher 3D performance. I...
