        HiZ usually gives a nice boost (up to 30% in R300g)

          No, GM45 has no hardware support for HiZ. Ironlake (the successor) was the first to introduce it, but in a way that's not very useful; right now we're only targeting Sandybridge and Ivybridge.

            HiZ is fairly effective at avoiding doing unnecessary work, and often gives a noticeable speedup.

              And what about h264 VA-API decoding? Do you know if there is someone still working on it?

                As far as I know, yes...though I can't say for sure as I'm not involved with media.
