  • AMD's New Train Engine

You remember The Truth About ATI/AMD & Linux with Matthew Tippett's references to trains? Well, here is his representation of the pre-8.41 train engine and the new 8.41 train engine

    That's... funny. Hilarious, in fact.

    Way to hotlink images, though.

Really nice analogy, but the image I have of things is a little different...

You really have to look sharp to see the difference!

this comparison suggests that there is no more room for performance improvements (or are there even faster trains than that one?).

There is a 500 Premium series. Already discussed it

A "more improved" train could be called "airplane" or "rocket". So improvement is possible.

              EDIT:
Okay, as step before we could just switch to a plain "transrapid":
Top speed (first attained) of scheduled trains

That train was developed for "normal speeds" of 500 to 550km/h.

So there is quite some place for improvements over the Shinkansen...

you know...faster trains have more spectacular derailings and crashes. is that what's waiting for us?

so the comparison is a bit wrong, in that aspect :]
