Phoronix: A Very Early Look At OpenSolaris 2010.02

OpenSolaris 2009.06 was released earlier this year, but unlike in years past and contrary to their original six month release cycle, there will not be another OpenSolaris distribution release in 2009. Instead, the next slated release is OpenSolaris 2010.02, which should be out in early February of next year. It is far too early to speculate everything that this next Sun operating system will have in store, but we do have some screenshots off a recent SXCE build and other details.

OpenSolaris 2010.02 will for sure have Boomer integrated (new OSS implementation) comparing to 2009.06.

      boomer integrated into b115

off a recent SXCE build and other details
      that's not SXCE

Regarding KMS; the xorg side probably won't be a problem, but KMS needs new kernel modules so Intel might actually be the only option for some time. Expect support for the other vendors to follow shortly after the BSDs introduce it.

Hey I got a much-desired feature for OSOL 2010.02: make OpenSolaris install from a bootable CD/DVD.

The fact that an OS called "openSolaris" release by Sun does not work on SPARC hardware, someone should be fired for that kind of idiocy. SXCE did/does boot from DVD, and that's what makes OpenSolaris for SPARC lame in comparison.

SPARC bootable installation CD just became available with OpenSolaris snv_130.

But when I tried to install it on Sun Blade 2500 it had some issues, since driver for Sun XVR-1200 video card was missing. Did anyone try to install OpenSolaris on Sun Blade?
