Suggestions for comparing & contrasting GPUs/CPUs use in general purpose computing
Hello,
My name is Robert Campbell. I am part of a 5 member of group of university students attending The University of Technology Jamaica.
We are currently undertaking a project to investigate the applicability of contemporary GPUs to general purpose computing while comparing and contrasting the performance to contemporary CPUs in order to determine if GPUs can replace CPUs over time.
Another group of students doing the same topic has decided to do this by benchmarking the performance peformance of both chips by running the same algorithms on them.
Our supervisor would like for us to take a different approach. However, we have little to no experience working with chips. We know basic programming but do not have much experience with systems programming save for an introductory operating system course we did.
We are therefore looking for suggestions on ways to compare the performance of GPUs and CPUs for general purpose computing. We would really appreciate suggestions you can make.
