    Switch to Wayland would most probably be too costly now. But without mobile as explanation for Mir there seam to be no long term justification for Mir either. So let's see how fast Canonical can do Unity on Mir on desktop.

        I predict you can use Mir on desktop now, it will become default in 2017 as the concept of a "desktop distro" gets replaced by convergence images, and most of the upstreaming of changes, which is currently in progress, will get completed.

        2017 is a prime number. Good things happen in years that are prime numbers.

          If someone knows how to handle lots out of tree patches, it's Canonical.
          Their recent products were very successful. I'm sure they can do everything Apple can do.
