It looks like there's a development repo: https://github.com/viciious/qfusion

- do they accept contributions?
- is it useful -- can it be used to compile the game then play it?

of course we accept contributions: https://github.com/viciious/qfusion/pulls

And yes, the same repository can be used to tweak/modify the game although Warso comes with a few patches on top of this repository that tweak certain constants.
